What's So Great About Whey?

What is whey? As milk curdles, the caseins—the solids—become cheese and the remaining liquid is the whey. The whey includes important components such as immunoglobulins, amino acids, and proteins. Most of us know that proteins are essential for growth and development. They provide our bodies with the building blocks we need to manufacture hormones, antibodies, enzymes, tissues and organs. Proteins give us energy, and so much more.

Whey is particularly important for fall, because it has components that  enhance the immune system, such as immunoglobulins, lactoferrin and glutamine and glutathione. Glutamine is essential during times of stress or illness and for maintaining muscle mass. Glutathione is an important antioxidant, lactoferrin is important in developing immune response cells, and immunoglobulins are transporters of antibodies that combat foreign substances and stabilize and protect the digestive tract.

The cattle that produce the milk used to create these proteins are raised without the use of growth regulating steroids or milk inducing hormones (including rBGH). The milk is free of antibiotics and is routinely screened for over 200 agricultural and chemical contaminants.
