A Guest Post by Samantha Gladish, Holistic Wellness Expert - When it comes to detoxification, food is of utmost importance. Specifically, it’s more so about the nutrients our food can supply us to support detoxification on a daily basis.
It’s true! We detoxify daily, thanks to the amazing work of our liver. From the toxins in the food we eat, to environmental toxins to household cleaning products and our contaminated drinking water, our bodies are in a toxic overloaded state and our liver works hard to eliminate these unnecessary chemicals we are in constant contact with.
There are numerous ways to gently and safely detoxify our bodies, from herbs, to supplements and of course, choosing clean, organic whole foods.
Heading out to your local health food store and buying a 10-day detox kit just ain’t gonna cut it! As much as those kits can be effective in ‘cleaning you out,’ they really don’t address the biggest and most important issue, which is food and nutrients!
In order to eliminate toxins, we need to feed our bodies well. In fact, the foods you choose to eat play a vital role in eliminating toxins from your body as well as supporting different organ systems.
Let’s take a look at your liver…
As your main detoxifying organ, your liver has over 500 functions in the body. From ridding your body of wastes, metabolizing hormones and assisting in digestion, your liver has a lot of work to do.
B vitamins, vitamin A and C and minerals such as zinc, magnesium, calcium and selenium are all important for supporting detoxification and the liver. Several amino aids are also important for improving detoxification and eliminating chemicals from your body. Cysteine and methionine in particular, help prevent oxidation and bind to heavy metals such as mercury to help flush it from your system.
An incredibly powerful and important antioxidant needed for detoxification is glutathione. This antioxidant works to decrease toxins accumulated from smoke, radiation, auto exhaust, chemicals, drugs and many other carcinogens.
Since your liver is your main detoxifying powerhouse, it is important to eat foods that optimize the health of the liver and supply you with many of the vitamins and minerals mentioned above.
You can simply make a green smoothie in the morning with fresh berries, spinach, almond milk and a scoop of VegeGreens® Vegan Protein, which will not only will supply your body with incredible detoxifying nutrients, such as dandelion and alpha lipoic acid, but is also rich in potent cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and kale.
As a bonus, this smoothie will also keep you satiated and help to balance your blood sugar due to the added protein.
As much as I’d like to see everyone consuming large amounts of green vegetables, all of which supply the body with essential nutrients and support the liver, sometimes it can be difficult to load up on 8 to 10 servings a day. Using VegeGreens Vegan Protein is a simple and effective way to support your body and assist in daily detoxification. It can help your body better eliminate and deal with the onslaught of toxins, which in turn will assist you in having more vibrant energy, clearer skin and better overall health.
